ChenMed to Invest More Than $200 Million to Bring Affordable Concierge-Style Health Care to Philadelphia Seniors
ChenMed, a leading primary care provider, announced today that it will more than double its initial investment to bring affordable, concierge-style health care to Philadelphia seniors at little to no cost to patients.
Known for its high-touch care that the September American Journal of Managed Care reports reduces hospital admissions for seniors by 50%, while shrinking healthcare costs by 28% (see abstract), ChenMed will open at least 10 Dedicated Senior Medical Centers (Dedicated) in Philadelphia, investing more than $200 million locally over the next five years.
The first two of four Dedicated centers in Philadelphia celebrate multi-day grand openings this week, with hundreds of local Medicare-eligible seniors expected each day. Dedicated clinicians have been seeing patients locally for more than six weeks, and two more Dedicated Philadelphia centers will celebrate grand openings early in October.
The four new Dedicated Philadelphia medical practices, honor seniors with affordable VIP care that delivers better health. Adhering to the proven and scalable ChenMed approach to primary care, doctors at the new Dedicated centers give patients their cell phone numbers and encourage both calls and walk-in appointments whenever a patient might not be feeling well.
Plus, since Dedicated primary care physicians each focus on serving 400 patients -- instead of the national average for primary care doctors that exceeds 2,300 patients – they join their ChenMed clinical peers in annually investing an average of 189 minutes face-to-face with each patient. That’s nine times the U.S. average of just 21 minutes yearly.
“We’re transforming care for Philadelphia seniors by consistently delivering high-touch personalized care,” says Gaurov Dayal, M.D., ChenMed President of New Markets and Chief Growth Officer. “What truly differentiates our centers, is the amazing relationships that our doctors and care teams nurture with each and every senior we are blessed to serve. Our PCPs and specialist doctors are passionate about delivering the quality of care they want for their moms and dads; for their grandparents, aunts and uncles.”
Dedicated’s four new centers in Olney, West Philadelphia, North Philadelphia and Mayfair represent the first $80 million in the company’s planned five-year investment exceeding $200 million to improve health outcomes for tens of thousands of Philadelphia seniors.
“Personalized care is our passion,” adds Sophie Parker, MD, Dedicated Philadelphia’s Associate Chief Medical Officer. “We’re really good at detecting and managing multiple high-risk diseases for elderly patients so each of our seniors can stay as active as possible for as long as possible and enjoy the maximum number of healthy days. We also provide a wide variety of value-added services, including walk-in appointments, door-to-doctor transportation, on-site specialists, and on-site medication dispensing and so much more.”
Dr. Parker encourages Philadelphia seniors to stop by any one of the new Dedicated centers to meet one of the doctors and to chat with current patients about the quality of care they are receiving. Seniors and their caregivers also are invited to attend the following grand openings at the new locations:
- Dedicated Philadelphia Olney (5675 North Front Street, Suite 141) – September 18-19
- Dedicated North Philadelphia (2101 West LeHigh Avenue, Suite A) – September 20-21
- Dedicated Philadelphia Mayfair (6431 Sackett Street) – October 3-4
- Dedicated West Philadelphia (9422 Arlington Expressway) – October 10-11
ChenMed’s model of high-touch care has proven to drive successful patient outcomes. A five-year report showed that its doctors invest an average of 189 minutes of face-to-face with each patient annually—more than nine times the national average. That report also found that ChenMed patient rates for ER visits are 33.6 percent lower than the national average among Medicare beneficiaries. ChenMed patients also averaged 28 percent fewer in-patient hospital admissions, and 25 percent fewer in-patient hospital days than the average Medicare beneficiary. Given the current ChenMed performance data reported in the September 2018 American Journal of Managed Care, (see release), it’s clear that ChenMed’s more than 50 medical practices in seven states continue to make significant quality of care gains.
