For Dr. Poonam Patel, the most rewarding part of being a physician is watching her patients thrive. “I want my patients to enjoy their future years, and this is best done by having control of their medical problems, along with disease prevention,” she says. She finds it extremely rewarding to work with the senior population. “Mutual respect and open-mindedness” are key in establishing strong relationships. “My job is to provide hope and ease the process—I make sure my patients understand their medical problems, why they are on their medicines, and what needs to be done in order to take control of their health,” she says.
In her free time, Dr. Patel can be found enjoying the outdoors. One of her goals is to visit all the national parks.
