For Tamara Dukes, the best part of being a family nurse practitioner is helping patients make positive changes in their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health. “Nursing is not a job for me, it is a calling on my life to serve others with love, empathy, and commitment,” she says. Trust is important to her when establishing relationships with patients. She loves advocating for her patients and treating them with compassion, understanding, and availability. “I listen. I talk to them and not at them. I respect them and their autonomy,” she says.
Tamara Dukes is currently pursuing her Doctor of Nursing degree. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, visiting the beach, camping, traveling, and hiking.
