About Monica Spurlin
Monica Spurlin knew she wanted to be a nurse at just 5 years old — inspired by watching General Hospital with her mother. "To care for others has always been a calling for me," she says. She worked hard to achieve that dream and has continued to advance her knowledge and education throughout her career. Monica chose to focus on the senior population because they have the greatest need — and because she finds them endlessly fascinating. "My favorite part is when they share experiences from their past," she says.
Monica approaches every patient relationship as a true partnership. She listens carefully, involves patients in their own decision-making, and makes sure they feel valued and heard. "When the provider and patient work as partners in decision-making, the patient feels valued," she says. Her goal is to understand each patient's unique needs and goals — then work together to achieve them.
When not with patients, Monica tends to her small farm where she grows much of her family's food, raises chickens for fresh eggs, cultivates fruit trees, and makes her own jams and jellies. She also crafts with resin, creating one-of-a-kind jewelry and unique handmade gifts.
